Hoedspruit, Limpopo is home to a unique boutique hotel – a converted airplane, which contains several rooms. This week, the Aerotel project added another craft to its fleet – a massive Boeing 727 – which will serve as the estate’s “VIP” suite.

The 727 was flown from OR Tambo International Airport to Hoedspruit and mesmerized dozens of passers-by on its journey, which lasted five days from Monday, June 7.

On Friday June 11, when the VIP Aerotel plane finally reached its destination at the Zandspruit Bush and Aero Estate in Hoedspruit, the Limpopo Department of Transportation issued a jubilant statement and urged the public to visit the province.

“As part of the trip to Hoedspruit, the plane made stops at Polokwane, Mokopane, Marble Hall, Modjadjiskloof and more recently Gravelotte,” the ministry said.

Myra Kotze, deputy manager of Aerotel Hoedspruit, said the Boeing 727 will be converted to a VIP suite. “The first has been transformed into six rooms, however, this plane will be transformed into our VIP suite,” she explained to the Polokwane Reviews.

“Visitors will have the option of renting the entire aircraft,” Kotze added.

The transport of the first aerotel plane took nine days, according to its website. “The dream came true” in March 2019. It was a long process and the owners, Martin and Tracy den Dunnen, took four months just to prepare for the safe transport of the plane to Hoedspruit.

Once the plane arrived, they set out to convert the plane, although they had no previous experience to help them with this unique project. “But with the help and expertise of local and regional professionals, Aerotel today is a testament to what will and passion can accomplish, when combined with a great team of like-minded people. “

Tracy told the Polokwane Reviews that the Boeing 727 is already equipped as a VIP experience and will have 18 beds inside.

Aerotel asked the public to send videos and images of the plane en route to Hoedspruit and they agreed. The hotel’s social media pages were inundated with visuals of the massive plane on the route.
