The former Christchurch Main Post Office in Cathedral Square is due to be relaunched as Grand in a special VIP event on Thursday night.
According to The Grand’s website, the 140-year-old main post office is to be transformed into a key destination “with a French artisan bakery, dining experience, visitor information, iconic restaurants and bars, and one of the largest in New Zealand. outdoor seating “.
He says as part of the launch there will be a “we want him to belong to this community” crowdfunding campaign providing an opportunity to “become a founding investor” of The Grand.
The Grand will be a leased location within the former Main Post Office building owned by The Grand Cathedral Square Ltd which will own and operate the businesses occupying the leased building, not the building itself.
The old main post office was designed in an Italian style and is an important landmark at a corner of Cathedral Square. The building previously housed the Christchurch Tourist Information Center, restaurants and a cafe since 2000.
The building is listed in New Zealand Heritage Category 1 and has been empty since the earthquakes of 2011.
As part of The Grand crowdfunding campaign, the website says “in addition to a healthy return on investment” you will receive “bonus rewards” for different levels of investment.
Level 1 – 1000 shares for $ 1000 – you will receive a $ 70 voucher to use at 1879 Bar and Restaurant
