The Limpopo High Court has heard horrific details regarding the death of student Precious Ramabulana. The conviction process for the accused Aubrey Manaka is due to continue on Friday, June 11, after being postponed the day before.
Manaka pleaded guilty to all charges against him, including rape, murder, theft and housebreaking. Ramabulana, a 21-year-old student at Capricorn TVET College was stabbed multiple times while sleeping in her off-campus residence in November 2019.
Aubrey Manaka stabbed Precious Ramabulana 90 times
It was initially reported that Precious Ramabulana had been stabbed 52 times, but on Thursday the state revealed that post-mortem results showed that she had in fact been stabbed 90 times by Aubrey Manaka.
Manaka admitted in court that he stabbed Ramabulana before and after raping her. He said he stabbed her to death because he feared she could identify him to police.
“I don’t remember how many times I stabbed her, but it was several. I stabbed her to subdue her, then I raped her, ”he said.
“I had sex with her forcibly after stabbing her. She was not bleeding profusely. After I had forced sex with her, I stabbed her again. I was afraid that she would survive and be able to identify me “
In his confession statement, Manaka claims that he did not plan to kill Ramabulana because he had feelings for her. Manaka claims that on the fateful night he actually intended to propose to her, but ended up breaking into her room and killing her.
He pleaded in court for leniency and also asked for forgiveness.
“I feel sorry for the family for what I have done and want to take full responsibility for my actions,” he said.
