Meadowbank’s video store will close next month.

Auckland’s latest video store has announced its closure.

Meadowbank’s video store will close next month. The store has been on the market since 1983 and at its peak there were five locations in Auckland.

Owner Jan Silk told Heather du Plessis-Allan she had mixed feelings about the closure.

“I realize the video has had its day, but I enjoyed it so much that it was difficult to let go.”

She says the store was doing fine until Christmas, but new releases have dried up due to Covid-19’s delay on new movie releases and many movies being sent to streaming services.

“We have not been able to provide the service we wish to provide to our customers.”

The store is now selling its library.
